Participants work side by side to build a section of traditional bamboo fencing for a temple or cultural site, learning how bamboo is selected, prepared, tied, and shaped to harmonize with the surrounding landscape.
The completed fence is installed on site and may remain part of the grounds for ten to twenty years, turning a corporate visit into a lasting contribution to Kyoto’s cultural landscape. Process
Design the Fence in AdvanceStudy the venue and develop a fence design suited to the site.
Prepare the FoundationMeasure the site and install the fence foundation.
Prepare the BambooClean and split the bamboo for the approved design.
Assemble the FenceArrange and assemble the bamboo to realize the design.
Finish with Traditional CordingSecure and finish the bamboo fence with black cord.
