- In 1999, Zenkyu encountered Kyogen while studying at Kyoto University. Since then, he has devoted himself to mastering classical Kyogen while introducing the art through hands-on lessons and experiences. Alongside performing the traditional repertoire, Zenkyu explores new possibilities for Kyogen by creating original works from ideas brought by travelers and developing improvised performances inspired by ideas that emerge in the moment.

Create and Perform Your Own Kyogen Story
380,000 JPY / groupTurn your own story into Kyogen, Japan’s centuries-old comic theatre, during a private experience with professional actor Zenkyu Kawata. After exploring Kyogen’s distinctive voice, movement, laughter, and portrayal of everyday human nature, your group develops a short original piece from an anecdote or idea shared in advance or during the session.
Dress in traditional costume, rehearse with the performers selected for your group, and perform the completed piece together. The standard group price is fixed for 2 to 20 guests and includes a suitable temple venue in Kyoto. Performances in other cities, a specific region, or a more prestigious venue can be arranged for an additional quotation. Interpretation can also be arranged separately.
