Ufuzan Inryoji Temple/Mokujiki Acupuncture Clinic

Ufuzan Inryoji Temple/Mokujiki Acupuncture Clinic is a Soto sect temple located on the mountainside surrounded by nature in Nantan City.Mr. Kuroda, a monk, runs the temple where the 'Smiling Buddha', a Mokujiki Buddha, is said to have been hand-carved by Mokujiki Shonin, an itinerant monk from the Edo period. He came to live at this temple due to a connection he had when he was a student, and thought, 'At this temple, I could make people smile through both acupuncture and Buddhism.' He began working as an acupuncturist and practicing Buddhism. I was encouraged. I want to make people smile and smile when they come. A young monk is waiting for you.

A Buddhism Prayer and Acupuncturist

Mr. Kuroda is from Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. He decided to become an acupuncturist because he was impressed by how quickly acupuncture healed injuries he sustained during club activities. When he was in college, his teacher told him that he could live at Inryoji Temple if he would protect it, which led him to become a monk. He decides to live in a temple anyway, so he begins to study Buddhism. In 2019, I studied Buddhism for about a year at Koshoji Temple, the first Soto Zen dojo to open. In addition to providing treatment at an acupuncture clinic and working as a monk, he also holds zazen experiences and study sessions and events on oriental medicine. We aim to be a temple where people gather.

He says

“Eating and cleaning are things we do on a daily basis, but I think that by facing and concentrating on each of the activities we normally do, we can feel something new and different , and review our daily lives.

I hope you will enjoy the luxury of sitting and doing nothing.”
